Soccer kicks into action

Soccer kicked off in Beaumont this weekend with a tournament on the west side soccer fields.  Here, Riley combines a block with an attack move -- I suppose she has been waiting the whole summer for this opportunity.

Granddaugher sends a message

I think this is just a hint that Papa is taking too many pictures.  That's my interpretation.  I invite your analysis of the photo.

Bikers buzz by

We were watching out son in a bike race in Houston last week (he's not in these pictures) -- it was exciting stuff, including a couple of breath-holding spills.  These guys whiz around that track in the upper 20's mph for a half hour up to one hour (depending on the skill category.   I couldn't decide what was the best picture so I picked these two,  and reserve the right to post more in the future.

Ironman and mom

We were in the Woodlands this weekend to support our son, Charles, in his second Ironman competition.
This shot is after he had completed the swim and the 112-mile bike run and was on the second of three 8 mile loops in the marathon part of the event.  He slowed down to walk a few feet with mom, Linda, who is obviously beam
ing.  He finished in 12 hours and 24 minutes

Lamar University - football is back!

Football is back!
The Lamar Cardinals took the first home opener in the retrofitted Provost-Umphrey stadium last night.
The Cards defeated the Weber International team in the first football at Lamar Stadium in 20 years.
The fans were ready for the moment and poured onto the field a in a display of pure enjoyment.
Notice the guy on the Southland Conference sign near the center of the picture.  He is getting ready to do a cartwheel  -- one of about four people I saw doing one as they poured onto the field.

Couriers careen through concrete canyon

This was the scene a few weeks back at the Houston Marathon.  The runners, whom normally look larger than life as they slap past, seem dwarfed here.  This concrete canyon was near the finish line.

Cosmetic surgery gives Cardinals a new face lift

The old bleacher having been removed, this welder goes about removing the bleacher supports from Lamar's stadium as it gets a make over for the return of football to the University in Beaumont, TX. The field has been laid dirt bare to prepare for the artificial surface and Higgins Fieldhouse has been demolished and most carted off.
Talk about cosmetic surgery!

Where has all the green grass gone?

Football is coming to Lamar University soon. That means all the grass has to go?

The Stadium is getting a sprucing up -- new field, fixed bleachers, new fieldhouse and more.

Meanwhile it is a strange site to see the field looking more like a mud bowl that a gridiron. You'll have to wait a while to see the final results.

Field of dreams

It was soccer night last night as the bright lights pushed back the black night for a few hours just past the out of bounds line. We were just coming back from a five mile walk -- the walking path starts right by these fields. The rain from the day had left a cool feeling in the night that we are not used to this time of year in Beaumont. (Right click on the picture and pick "View Image" to see the whole thing -- it doesn't fit here very well)
