Female Grackle sashays near Lake Sabine

This female Grackle was strutting her stuff by Lake Sabine and Bridge City.  I was coming back from Orange the other day and decided to see what lie out that way.  I was not disappointed.  The Egrets, Ahingas, gulls and Grackles were busy soaking up the sun and winds.

Divided attention (Green Heron)

On the road over to Lake Sabine a while back I ran into this Green Heron (Butorides virescens) with it's neck stuckout -- they usually hold it tight against their body. I suppose he was trying to decide between watching me or watching for dinner.

New bridge will be ready to battle storms

Hurricane Rita slammed the Causeway bridge that connect Texas's Pleasure Island and Louisiana's Cameron Parish on Highway 82, the Gulf Beach Highway. The next Hurricane will have a harder time of disrupting the flow of traffic, as a new highrise bridge is being built to replace the drawbridge. Here the old is to the right and the new climbs on the left over the pass into Lake Sabine.
